The small cemetery was silent except for the sound of rain falling softly onto the fresh mound of earth. Everyone had already said their final goodbyes, but one person refused to walk away. Seven-year-old Lily stood beside the newly buried coffin, her tiny hands covered in dirt as she stared at the ground with tear-filled eyes.
“Something is wrong,” she whispered again and again.
The adults around her tried everything to convince her to leave. Her grandmother hugged her, her uncle promised they would come back tomorrow, and the funeral workers gently asked her to step away. But Lily shook her head. She was certain her mother was not truly gone.
“She wouldn’t leave me,” the little girl said. “She told me she would always come back.”
The heartbreaking scene grew more emotional as everyone struggled to accept what was happening. Some thought grief had overwhelmed the child, while others tried to explain that death was final. But Lily held on to one strange detail that no one else had noticed.
